Who We Are
Forest NB is the voice of New Brunswick’s forest and forest industry.
We represent core contributors to the forestry sector by serving as a common voice in relations with government and the public. One of our main duties is to raise public awareness of sustainable forest management practices and provide a forum for the exchange of information, ideas and issues facing the sector and local communities.
We promote renewable forests that foster healthy community relationships and believe that sustainable forest development makes for a happy and strong New Brunswick.
Forestry is the cornerstone of the provincial economy, accounting for 5.1% of New Brunswick’s GDP in 2010. More than 20,000 families are supported by forestry in the province. In 2010, the combined salaries and wages of 11,600 people working New Brunswick forestry related jobs totaled more than $1 billion.
The manufacturing of wood and paper products accounts for more than 30% of total manufacturing output of the province making forestry the largest manufacturing and exporting sector, with the exception of oil and refineries. We export 80% of our finished products all over the world.
The forest is New Brunswick’s greatest resource.
Forest NB and its members are committed to sustainable and progressive forest management, ensuring healthy forests and quality products for generations to come. This is demonstrated by actions and initiatives such as:
- Encouraging the wise use and management of forest resources
- Raising public awareness and understanding of sustainable forest management, protection and use
- Working with government in the development of policies, programs and regulations regarding forestry
- Supporting the economic, environmental and social well-being of all New Brunswickers
Our members and the products they manufacture are proudly certified. Most of New Brunswick’s forests are SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified, which is accepted and recognized by PEFC (Program for Endorsement of Forestry Certification). Other certification on some lands include CSA –Z804 and CSA –Z809 and FSC. Want to become a member? Contact us
